How To Awaken An Elder God: Get A Moderator Punched In The Stomach
Joe Pangrazio writes,
WARNING! ASKING FOR MONEY ARTICLE! WARNING!
You have now been warned.
This is usually the time when someone tries to suggest some tips for making a crowdfunder work, as a stealth attempt to advertise their own crowd funding project. I'm not going to do that. Because I'm a fool. What I will tell you a bit about is the comic I'm trying to get printed and about FundAnything (because I actually like them).
Cthulhu Holmes is a project I conceived of over two years ago while working the overnight shift at a gas station. A proper gentleman detective with the head of an squid investigates the strange and weird. A few months of musing on the character led to other developments and Cthulhu Holmes as he now exists was born.
The first man I approached to help bring Holmes to life was Scott Hall. For six months, we sweated together and sent Holmes on a few wacky adventures. While we continued publishing to the internet, the goal was always print. The goal is always print.
Now, three years from that 3 am sketch session in a gas station, the dream of Holmes in print is close to becoming a reality. And all I need is the help of others that love the ridiculous antics Scott and I made together.
With the money from this campaign, we will be able to do a generous black and white printing of the first Holmes story: The Canny Cthulhu Holmes: The Case of the Bunny Man. More money will mean more copies, of course. If we really start to bring in the big bucks, we may even print the second Holmes story: The Canny Cthulhu Holmes: The Crying Unicorn.
Of course, you don't have to give me anything. You don't even have to click on any links. I mean, every page that we've published so far is right over at http://www.cthulhuholmes.com. You can just go there and read it all. And boy, that would sure show me.
On the other hand, if enough people want the actual physical artifact, we're going to upgrade everyone's comic to full color for no additional charge. Just four American dollars for a 40 page full color comic. That's a bargain!

And unlike so many of these other articles, you'll see I'm using a newer site called FundAnything. I heard about the site through Penn Jillette's website and thought I'd give them a shot. It's a little different in that not only do we keep all money donated, they actually send the money almost immediately to the Paypal that's registered for the campaign. Which also means, we won't run into the issue of people pledging and not paying (or being able to) once the deadline hits. And, they've even retweeted out a few of my tweets promoting the campaign, something that Kickstarter has never done.
I'm not a big fan of the hard sell. I would love nothing more than for everyone reading this article to even kick in just a dollar towards the campaign. It brings another comic into the world, it makes me confident that someone actually cares about what I've spent the past 3 years of my life making, and it will only motivate me to push forward on more projects.
But I know that's not always enough. So here, here's a Bleeding Cool exclusive. For every one hundred dollars over our goal we make, I'll take a punch to the stomach. In succession, on video. And will upload it to Youtube.
