Kicking With Cactus: Before/After Cactus
Hi there Bleeders! I deeply apologize for the delay in Kicking with Cactus. Those who've asked about its whereabouts or commented that you missed it really warmed my heart. Unfortunately I've had an unpredictable few weeks that have snowballed into some serious and heavy situations. I hope to be back on schedule next week, but I thought I'd take a moment to appreciate you readers with a peek at what is coming after Cactus.
The original impetus behind me doing the strip was to remodel my working habits a little, to push myself as an overall creator, and maybe at the end of the year, have a nice little one-shot to show for it. You see, I'm not typically a cartoon type artist. I'm typically slower than frozen maple syrup, and deeply influence by the likes of guys like Travis Charest and Tony Harris. Essentially, Kicking with Cactus was the antithesis of everything I would normally do, but after 15 years of sweeping the gutters of the comic industry, I needed to get something of my "world" under my belt and out to you readers.
This "world" or universe I've begun to unfold has the over-title, TELEFATED. Each book will be a chapter in the overall scheme, yet self contained. The model for this is without a doubt Hellboy, and I intend to roll out one-shots or minis in this universe for the rest of my life. As an artist that is constantly improving, there's a level of trepidation to doing something like this, but thanks to books like Mark Schultz' Xenozoic and Dave Steven's Rocketeer, I got comfortable with the idea of growing and getting better as the series goes on, and I'm confident there's an audience out there that, like me, enjoys watching that artistic progression. The TELEFATED books are me jumping in with both feet, pulling out all the stops. The first chapter is titled 'Last Call at Saturn's Tempest,' and it begins slightly before Kicking with Cactus, and ends slightly after. We learn how ISIT wound up taking the job of Kicking with Cactus, and see the ramifications of his adventure with Cactus on his life "above."
I hope you'll enjoy this Bleeding Cool exclusive sneak peek at some pages and development materials, and come back next week as we begin the final countdown to the end of Isit's Kicking with Cactus adventure!
