Well, it's not in the newly christened 50K Club alongside Once & Future and (almost) Something Is Killing The Children quite yet, but I'm hearing Matt Smith and Matt Kindt's Folklords #1, the newest creator-owned launch from Boom Studios, has already sold out at Diamond Distributors two weeks before its November 13 release despite a healthy overprint. Despite best efforts, Boom can't seem to meet the ever-increasing demand for the company's launches that have led to even the ubiquitous Filip Sablik publicly reassuring retailers.
But even if Boom Studios printed enough to last nearly ten days after FOC – which is a marked improvement for the publisher as they continue to challenge Image in an increasingly competitive Marvel vs DC feud of the top creator-owned comic publishers – one has to wonder if the-sure-to-be-announced Folklords #1 second printing will follow the same fate as those aforementioned 50K Club books with allocations that drive speculator interest.
Just look at the Once & Future #1 second printing, which still receives listings as high as $69.99, even if $24.99 is the new more commonly "affordable" price for the issue.
Meanwhile, Something is Killing The Children #1's second printing is listed as high as $29.99 though you might be able to grab it for $14.95 if you act quickly.
And that all happened without all the Hollywood buzz around the creators, whereas Folklords writer Matt Kindt has been in the spotlight of publications like Deadline thanks to Legendary optioning his previous Boom hit (and Eisner Award nominee) Grass Kings.
Just ask Image's Eric Stephenson how the reported million dollar deal for Undiscovered Country helped propel the series to a gigantic 83K launch. Maybe he'll launch his own 80K Club to remind Boom Studios just who's really winning their feud…
But perhaps both Boom and Image should instead be putting some of that energy towards romancing Marvel superstar Donny Cates, who seems very interested in some new drinkware and from whom a new launch is guaranteed to be a hit? Could this be the start of an Absolute Cates Conflict between Boom and Image?
Absolute Carnage teams enjoy tasty beverages as well.
We even have a fancy spiral logo and a made up symbiote alphabet to go on it.
We patiently await your response… https://t.co/rbzFAjIRQx

Folklords #1 is on-sale November 13 at comic stores. Let's just say the second printing will be on-sale November 20 and the inevitable third printing will probably hit stores November 27
