Nick Clegg Defended The Right To Offend At The Political Cartoonist Awards 2015 (VIDEO)
I went to the British Political Cartoonist Of The Year Awards last night. I wasn't nominated (web cartoonists aren't – and that was the only reason, okay?) but plenty of fine cartoonists were. And in an expansive church hall in St John's Square in London's Westminster, politicians, cartoonists, researchers, and lobbyists mingled, with a free bar and substantial nibbles.
They had the cartoonists at free bar.
The awards were given by Nick Clegg MP, the previous leader of the Liberal Democrats. Last week the current leader, Tim Farron MP, held a comic book art auction at Orbital. There must be something in the water.
This is how it went down…
The Frankenstein's Monster was mine I think… and a few more shots from the night.
Political Cartoonist Of The Year went to Steve Bell of The Guardian. My earliest of cartooning influencers I have memories aged six tracing his strips. Swipe file!
Runner up for Political Cartoon Of The Year went to Bob Moran of The Telegraph who revealed this cartoon was finished, drunk on Telegraph champagne.
And Political Cartoon Of The Year went to Peter Brookes of The Times
And so the night was over and Ubers lined up around the square….
