One Final Mission for All-New Wolverine in May?
Following the conclusion of the Old Woman Laura storyline in All-New Wolverine, May's issue of the title doesn't appear to name a new storyline and feels a bit final. Check it out:
ALL NEW WOLVERINE #35 LEG
(W) Tom Taylor (A) Ramon Rosanas (CA) David Lopez
The world has been saved. Its people, never happier. The Wolverine should be retired, enjoying her time ruling Madripoor and living life with her sister. But instead Laura is in the last bastion of cruelty: Latveria. She has one more mission: One person to save, one person to kill. It all comes down to this. (STL079564)
32pgs, FC SRP: $3.99
This story is set in the future and could be an epilogue to the Old Woman Laura storyline before the book shifts back to the present. All-New Wolverine has decent sales. It's ranked in Diamond's Top 100 and it's ranked higher than titles like Incredible Hulk, Punisher, Champions, Black Panther, Cable, Ms. Marvel, Runaways, and many others. It's also been, from this reporter's subjective opinion, a quality book for its entire run.
Even so, Tom Taylor has bigger fish to fry in the third core X-Book, X-Men: Red, and he's brought along the cast of All-New Wolverine to that book with him. The original Wolverine is returning to the Marvel Universe in a big way, with four Hunt for Wolverine comics published in May, one of them, Adamantium Agenda, also written by Taylor. And there are, in addition to the better-selling Old Man Logan, a ton of other ongoing X-Books: X-Men Gold, X-Men Blue, X-Men Red, Cable, Deadpool, Domino, Exiles, Astonishing X-Men, Weapon X, some published twice per month. That doesn't include the annuals and Wedding Specials and minis.
Further, the X-Books have not had a proper relaunch since ResurrXion, only nominally affected by Legacy and apparently unchanged going into Fresh Start, at least in May's solicits. Surely it's time soon for the return of Uncanny X-Men. We don't know yet what the next X-Book relaunch will look like, but it may not have room for All-New Wolverine, at least in her current solo book. Perhaps we'll find out more at ComicsPRO. Or maybe we'll get a Twitter denial in response to this article. We'll let you know either way.
