Bringing Back Sam Glanzman's Combat!
Drew Ford writes for Bleeding Cool,
While everyone else was enjoying NYCC, I was knee deep in my second Kickstarter to publish another issue of the classic war comic book series, COMBAT!
All 26 issues of COMBAT were illustrated by Sam Glanzman.
The first issue I Kickstarted successfully was 'The Story of Dunkirk'. This time around, I am attempting to Kickstart 'The Battle of Midway'. In an attempt to get folks excited about bringing back these stand along stories from World War II, I have asked a handful of artists (who have some type of personal connection with the work of Glanzman) to create variant covers for each issue I bring back. The Dunkirk issue will have a cover by Walter Simonson.
The issue I am Kickstarting now, the Midway issue, will have a cover by Russ Heath.
Future issues of COMBAT will have covers by artists such as Timothy Truman, Russ Braun, Billy Tucci and Dave Dorman. And more will be announced soon. These are great comics, which act as one shots, each containing a true story from World War II, making them perfect for anyone interested in war comics, military history, and of course Sam Glanzman fans. And I included a retailer reward, because with each issue being a one shot, it makes them perfect for comic shops looking for a comic book that can give them a longer shelf life than the standard superhero monthlies. Glanzman (who passed away only a few months ago) was excited about getting his COMBAT work back in print, and I am excited to get work from such a master of the comic book medium back in readers hands to enjoy for years to come!
