Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 9th March 2015 – Leia Beats Batman, Just

princessleia1

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

It was closer than previous Star Wars comic books. But Princess Leia topped the overall charts for this week's Bleeding Cool bestseller list, with Batman Eternal recovering from previous weeks as it approaches its end, with Saga tight behind. We have a relatively string launch for All-New Hawkeye, beating out the new Guardians Of The Galaxy title, and the launch of Descender does pretty well too…

  • 1. Princess Leia #1
  • 2. Batman Eternal #48
  • 3. Saga #26
  • 4. Detective Comics #40
  • 5. All New Hawkeye #1
  • 6. Avengers #42
  • 7. Guardians Team-Up #1
  • 8. Harley Quinn #15
  • 9. Descender #1
  • 10. Futures End #44

Thanks to the following retailers…

Who had this to say…

Batman Eternal 48 claimed the top spot this week. I thought Princess Leia would be the number one seller this week. It is a good comic and with the excitement of Star Wars and Darth Vader I thought it would do even better. Still plenty of time before the Star Wars movie to give Princess Leia legs saleswise. Guardian Team 1 has started off strong. Rocket Racoon is seeing renewed interest. Deadpool is enjoying pre movie buzz. DC's weeklies are going to be missed when they end. They really got people into the weekly habit of coming in for comics.

Amazing Spiderman 1st series seen some love this week.

Pretty awesome week in new books! Our number one spot was taken by Princess Leia #1 although not in a landslide like the previous two Star Wars books. Fans don't seem to be as excited about this one. Saga was an extremely close #2 (By three copies!) and that says a lot. Hopefully this book never stops coming out!

Had some strong offerings from Image this week, with Descender #1, Black Science and Saga all making it into the top ten. Guardians Team up seemed to be the biggest disappointment of the week just from word of mouth. I had at least fifteen customers complain about how bad Art Adams art looks without an inker. Are Marvel just trying to cut corners to save cash or are they just trying to put these books out too quickly. Fans are noticing. I even had a couple drop the book from their pull lists without even reading issue 1. Yikes. Sold a CRAZY amount of Birthright vol. 1 this week, solidifying

More and more customers are jumping on indie titles like crazy here. Birthright, Saga, Ghosted, Black Science, Rat Queens, Southern Bastards…the list goes on! The $10 volume 1 cannot be more helpful to us guys on the front lines. Keep them coming, Image!

Princess Leia doing well, but not moving at the same velocity as the other Star Wars books did. Descender doing well, but not charting. I am really going to miss DCs weeklies as all 3 always are in my top 10.

The DC Movie Covers are more ambitious than expected. Very well received.

Got in a nice little run of Fantastic Four last week. Most of #25-46 VG-VF. Also, mostly gone already.

Star Wars still going strong with Princess Leia selling much stronger than expected. The rest of the books that made the week were from Image, with Descender hitting Batman type numbers.

Little bit of everything sold on the back-issue market, but Batman seemed to move a little more than the other titles. Expect Amazing Spider-Man to start moving with all the announcements and characters in the Spider-Verse picking up interest.

I don't know if anything will ever outsell a new issue of Saga at our store.
All New Hawkeye flew off the shelves making it #2 with Avengers just behind. Marvel had only 3 spots with Princess Leia charting the lowest at #6.

Bat-books took most of DC's spots. Earth 2 is really popular with our customers and came in #9 barely beating out Namless #2.
Angel and Faith was Dark Horse's only entry, though Hellboy & BPRD was very close.
Crossed + 100 is selling way below expectations.

Lot of Suicide Squad interest. And many people who missed out on Vader 1 waiting for the 2nd ptg.
