Booze Geek – Ace Joker Hard Cider And Gotham Central
By Dylan Gonzalez
Beer: Ace Joker Hard Cider
Brewery: California Cider Co.
I once more return to the world of cider. As I was perusing the beer section of one of my local liquor stores, this bottle caught my eye. Ace? Joker? I had to try it.
Ace Joker Hard Cider is a dull yellow in color and produces a light, soap bubble looking head that disappears rather quickly. It does leave a fine ring of bubbles around the rim of the glass, a nice touch. The carbonation of the cider is easily seen.
I found myself comparing it to a prosecco when I actually got to drink it. It produced a very sweet scent, like that of an apple. This was also clear in drinking it. This cider tastes very much like a prosecco: apple-like with a slight bitterness. That being said, it is very drinkable, even with a good carbonation presence.
Overall, this was a fair cider. If I had to give it any props, the 6.9% alcohol content was a good difference from the usual 5% or so. I would recommend it to cider drinkers, but I think I will leave this alone for the time being.
What to Drink This To:
The label of Ace Joker was what really got my attention. Therefore, I would find it only appropriate to enjoy some of this with whatever your favorite Joker story is. Heck, the Ace Chemical plant reference is even in there. I would have a hard time pinpointing a perfect Joker story for this as there are so many (The Killing Joke, Arkham Asylum, Batman '89, The Dark Knight, etc.) but if I had to pick one? I would choose the Gotham Central classic "Soft Targets." I don't think I have ever felt so tense as I did during that storyline.
Now, would The Joker himself find this hard cider worthy of him? I imagine he would drink it, ponder it, make some pun off of it and laugh.
Then shoot you in the face.
