Grace Randolph's Between The Pages – Catwoman
Grace Randolph's Between The Pages - Catwoman
From Midtown Comics in Times Square, New York, Grace Randolph and Alan Kistler discuss Catwoman and the Fox 5 News of Washington DC's report that labelled it pornography, for the Think About The Ink vblog, Between The Pages.
Naturally, they are not totally 100% on Fox's side.
UPDATE: The video has been pulled in the years since this originally ran, so we're giving this article a re-edit in 2023, So missing the video, here is a teaser for the original Fox 5 DC Catwoman report that called all the fuss -which also is not quite available right now.
With the legend "TODAY'S NEW COMIC BOOKS WOULD MAKE ARCHIE AND VERONICA BLUSH!! "It's sort of like a fictionalized playboy for kids." WONDERING WHAT SELLS NOWADAYS?? "Sex sells." BLOOD…SEX…AND VIOLENCE??!! "A much more R-rated comic book." HOW TO K.O. THESE COMICS BEFORE THEY CORRUPT YOUR KIDS! WEDNESDAY ON FOX FIVE NEWS AT 11!" Yup, that's Catwoman.
WTTG is a television station in Washington, D.C., airing programming from the Fox network. It broadcasts 72 hours of locally produced newscasts a week under the Foc 5 News banner, including Sunday morning news show Fox 5 News on the Hill. In 2004, the workings of WTTG became a focus of Robert Greenwald's documentary Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism which features former WTTG journalists and staffers, claiming that after Rupert Murdoch bought the channel, their reporting switched to a model that was biased and sensationalist. That included broadcasting an uncut tribute to Ronald Reagan from the 1988 Republican National Convention and similar stories, as well as a focus on stories related to race relations and AIDS. Similar criticisms have attached themselves to the station over the years since. I wonder what it was that Grace Randolph had to say? Probably deleted due to a salacious headline of its own, we may never know, unless Grace decided to put it back up again. Grace?
