Mafia III Developer Has Opened a New Studio in the UK
Mafia III developer Hangar 13 has announced that it is opening up another studio in the UK, headed up by Split/Second's director.
I liked Mafia III a fair bit. While it had a problem with repetitiveness, there was definitely a solid core to the game and a unique cultural angle. Hangar 13 proved themselves to be a competent developer in their debut game, so seeing what they are doing next is something I definitely want to keep tabs on.
Interestingly, the developer is expanding its borders too. The company announced that it is opening a second studio in the UK; Brighton to be more specific. The studio is being headed up by Nick Baynes who acted as director of Split/Second and has a long history in game development.
There were no hints as to what the developer was working on however which is a shame. One would imagine the studio is just setting itself up to support whatever project is already in development, but it would be interesting if the studio split off it's now four bases around the world and worked on two projects simultaneously.
2K has said previously that the studio is working on something new and we would know about it sometime in the near future. Hey, with E3 coming up, we absolutely could see something revealed during the show from the developer. At the very least, it's always encouraging to have another AAA studio working out of the UK. We have a long history of video game excellence out here, so seeing new studios on this scale pop up is very exciting.
