Marvel To Follow DC With Twenty Page $2.99 Price Point

This is what I'm hearing from a number of sources right now. That Marvel is to follow DC's move to a twenty page/$2.99 price point on a number of its books.

Right now, Marvel publish pretty much equal copies of $2.99 and $3.99 twenty-two page comics, with some like the Avengers books, adding extra text pages. And Marvel's licensed and MAX titles are all $3.99 for twenty-two pages of comics.

In January, DC moved to a $2.99 twenty page standard format on DC, Vertigo and ex-Wildstorm titles. At the time, this point was mocked by the likes of Marvel's CB Cebulski and Tom Brevoort.

But now I'm hearing, Marvel will be dipping a toe in the water in May. Twenty page comic books for $2.99. And twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three and even a twenty-four pages.

But I'm told Marvel creators won't lose money on a reduced page count, as Marvel intend to increase twenty page books to thirteen issues or more a year if the creative team can manage it. And creators certainly won't have to rewrite an already accepted twenty-two page script into twenty pages – as has happened elsewhere…
