Saturday Trending Topics: Do Michigan Authorities Fear Comics?
First Robocop, now this. No sooner do we hear that a small tourist town in Michigan has arrested Batman, then comes word that Michigan state police have handled a Thor movie press kit as a possible bomb. Better safe than sorry in such situations, to be sure. But early this year there were rumors that both Batman and Avengers movie productions passed on Detroit as a location after behind-the-scenes negotiations with authorities didn't go as desired.
Now… I personally know more than a few comic book readers and creators in the state, I've bought comics from some outstanding retailers based there, and one of the Midwest's best and longest-lived comic cons happens to be taking place this very weekend near Detroit. And of course, MSU houses one of the country's great public comic book collections (and MSU prof Ethan Watrall has written about the History of the Modern Comic Book here based on his class of the same name).
But there's a strange disconnect going on between the state of Michigan and its geeks this year, for reasons unknown.

With Only 407 of 6000 Comics Sold So Far, Gary Dahlberg's Collection Tops $1.38 Million

Thor Press Kit Causes Terrorist Alert
And the prescence of a nice looking briefcase in a dumpster in a bus station, with some very intriguing contents was enough for a call to be made, the bus station evacuated and the Michigan State Police bomb squad called in, to make the Thor and Acura press kit safe.
Ten Thoughts About Doctor Who: The Doctor's Wife
So yes, Neil Gaiman has written an episode of Doctor Who. And he's a man who grew up watching Doctor Who. We all did. When I wrote a Doctor Who comic I basically used the idea that I'd had in my head since I was fifteen. We've all got one, our own Doctor Who story. And this week, Neil got to use his
