Steve Cook's Secret 2000AD Cover Archives

Marvel have recently moved a number of their titles to "self cover", where the cover is part if the print tun of the rest of the comic, on the same paper, cut together and bound from the same paper sheet, rather than being from a different, thicker, glossier paper stock.

Of course that's what all British comics used to be printed on. Newsprint, including the covers. Which didn't make for the best reproduction, especually the colour covers.

Steve Cook used to work for 2000AD. And he has a lot of the original production material. As he tells Bleeding Cool, "All this stuff was about to be binned by the archives guy when Fleetway were moving and luckily I rescued it on the condition that I took it away because they no longer had the space to store it. It's only now that I'm realising how fortunate I was to save it from oblivion and its future in a landfill somewhere."

He's currently posting much of it to his blog. I thought I'd compare and contrast with artwork from the printed copies, to see how valuable his personal archival work has been…
