Thor And Jane Foster No More? Thor: Ragnarok Has Thor As "A Solo Cowboy"
It's a sign of the times of the changing facets of fandom that my first thought upon reading this "Where is Jane Foster?" piece in EW, was "Ah, jeez, I bet the #Thor x Jane fans on tumblr are going to be taking this one pretty hard". Looks like they already are. Well, Thor/Jane shippers… don't worry about this too much. Thinking about it, the lack of the human alter ego that the original Jack Kirby and Stan Lee comics had does change the dynamic here a bit — but probably in favor of this relationship. Without a connection to humanity, gods and heroes are far less relatable, and that's certainly something that Disney is well aware of.
"He's off exploring the universe, still trying to police it and control the mayhem," says Hemsworth. "But he's certainly enjoying being a drifter, being a solo cowboy out there."
"We wanted Thor to encounter somebody that was near his equal and that his relationship with Jane may have evolved in unexpected ways in between The Dark World and Ragnarok and we wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior," says Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. "Valkyrie is trying to not embrace any sort of Asgardian heritage that she has. Thor thinks maybe that will create a bond between them and, on the contrary, she wants to forget it all entirely."
