Tuesday Runaround – Carnage, Rape, Swastikas And DemocracyPreviewWatch: Carnage U.S.A. #1…

1959Watch: Was Howard Chaykin right to reference rape in the fashion he did in in Avengers 1959 #4? Rusty doesn;t think so.

That is NOT what happened here. We are talking about two throw away characters that only appeared on two panels. They did not need to give us a reason for B.P. to knock them out. She was already going to do that. No. This was added for ZERO narrative advantage. It existed only so they could make a joke.

A joke about rape.

KindleWatch: ComiXology have announced that they will have a presence on the Amazon Kindle Fire. They're like a kind of No Man's Land in the digital comics war right now…

SwastikaWatch: Andy Khouri for Comics Alliance looks at how the swastika is removed from comics that want to be distributed in Germany, Diamond Previews listings for Glory and Pigs.

WonderWatch: Joss Whedon talks about his Wonder Woman movie that never was.

She was a little bit like Angelina Jolie [laughs]. She sort of traveled the world. She was very powerful and very naïve about people, and the fact that she was a goddess was how I eventually found my in to her humanity and vulnerability, because she would look at us and the way we kill each other and the way we let people starve and the way the world is run and she'd just be like, None of this makes sense to me. I can't cope with it, I can't understand, people are insane. And ultimately her romance with Steve was about him getting her to see what it's like not to be a goddess, what it's like when you are weak, when you do have all these forces controlling you and there's nothing you can do about it. That was the sort of central concept of the thing. Him teaching her humanity and her saying, OK, great, but we can still do better.

Here at The Escapist, we're big fans of nerd weddings (or, you know, amazingly geeky invitations). Now there's a new wedding to add to the list: The happy couple were such big comic fans that they themed the ceremony and reception around Superman and Harley Quinn.
