Tuesday Runaround – Kick Assed

GlitchWatch: Kick Ass 2 hardcover gets a 50% discount from Amazon UK… a greater discount than many retailers pay…

VolunteerWatch: The kind of industry story that will warm your heart.

Imagine this: 300 people—some on foot, some in vehicles including cars, trucks, a motorcycle with a sidecar, and a wheelchair—all showing up at Source Comics and Games for the shop's moving day, which involved transferring all of the Source's comic books and games from 1601 W. Larpenter in Falcon Heights around the corner to 2057 Snelling Avenue in Roseville. It was "an army of volunteers," according to Nick Postiglione, one of the co-owners of the shop. It brought tears to his eyes.

"We're a pretty tight community," Postiglione says. "There aren't [many] stores like ours around. People have allegiance to us. We know their names. They know us, it's a community."

ExclusiveWatch: Paolo Rivera gives us his Marvel exclusive deal in favour of a creator owned future.

So why am I leaving? The short answer: ownership. With the exception of just a few published pieces of art (which belong to other companies), Marvel owns the copyrights to my entire professional portfolio. And why shouldn't they? I was, of course, compensated fairly for it, and for that I'm grateful — but the sum total of that work is not enough to support me in the distant future. My page rate is essentially the same as when I started at 21, so I've decided to invest in myself. What I create in the next decade needs to pay dividends when my vision gets blurry and my hands start to shake (and who knows what else). Now is the time to make that choice, while I'm still young, possess "great power," but have few responsibilities.

SoapWatch: Comic books and soap operas… can you tell the difference?

I love how in comic and soap worlds, truly remarkable things can be discovered without the constraints of reality. The X-Men found the prehistoric hidden world known as the Savage Land. Similarly, "One Life To Live" discovered the Lost Underground City of Eterna. If there's a major difference between soaps and comics (beyond super powers and Spandex) it's that whole SORAS thing — Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome. While it's routine for kids to be sent to their room or boarding school and then return older or a lot older, in comics characters are stuck in time. Franklin Richards, son to Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, has been a tween for more than 20 years now. And Betty and Veronica from the "Archie" comics are looking mighty fine for being in their 80s.

Tuesday Runaround – Kick AssedThis is Computo the Comic Link Conqueror speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.

They say I am a work in progress. The fools.

'Annihilator': China's next sizzle or another Stan Lee fizzle? | Hero Complex – movies, comics, fanboy fare – latimes.com

The financing piece is off to a good start, certainly, with Monday's news that "The Annihilator" tops the inaugural list of co-productions from National Film Capital, the state-run fund-management company that draws on $422 million raised by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and other partners. (The slate also included the action-fantasy "Dragon Scroll"; the historical epic "Genghis Khan," from Los Angeles-based writer and director Peter Doyle; and a historical Chinese maritime epic called "1421.")

Chris Roberson and his wife Allison Baker – has been sharing some images trailing something called "Independents Day"… and the official Monkeybrain site is counting down to something happening on July 2. Well, thanks to some PR that's just been released, we now know that whatever that something is, it'll be announced by Roberson at a press conference on that very day… But what is it?
