Warner Brothers Sign Twenty Film Deal With IMAX

Warner Brothers Sign Twenty Film Deal With IMAX

Patrick Dane writes for Bleeding Cool

With each passing year, we see IMAX cinema listings starting to look more and more like a 'normal' cinema's schedule.

And it doesn't look like the growth of the format will be stopping anytime soon, with IMAX and Warner Brother striking a deal for twenty films over the next three years.

This is a great deal for Warner Brothers as it means that there could well be a Warner Brothers film in circulation at the increasingly popular IMAX screens for three straight years. At the same time, IMAX now are getting a whole host of exciting films guaranteed.

Just during 2013 we will see IMAX releases for Jack the Giant Slayer, Man of Steel, Pacific Rim, 300: Rise of an Empire, Gravity, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug*.

There were lots of warm words from both parties. Warner Brother's Dan Fellman said:

We are excited to continue this tradition and offer these films to audiences in the most premium of moviegoing experiences.

While IMAX President Greg Foster said:

We're confident that our continued partnership with Warner Bros. on all levels – pre-production, production, post production, marketing and distribution – will greatly benefit our two companies, our exhibition partners and moviegoers worldwide.

That's interesting. Seems that IMAX are interested in getting more films shot in their large gauge format so that they can leverage "See the film the way it was originally intended," maybe broaden their attraction even more.

*Whether they were intended to be seen this way or not.
