Star Trek, But Not as You Know It… Michael J. Friedman's Empty Space Hits Kickstarter
Michael J. Friedman is best known for writing over thirty Star Trek novels, including creating the Star Trek: Stargazer series. and plenty of comic books including the nineties series Darkstars, Flash, Outlaws — and plenty of Star Trek comics, too, including most of DC's Next Generation series. He also wrote the Voyager episode, Resistance. But of late he's stuck to prose.
That's all changing for 2018, as he is writing a new graphic novel, Empty Space, described as a cross between Star Trek and Lost. And no, that doesn't mean J.J. Abrams's Star Trek. No, not Discovery either. Come on now, you're better than that. But it's his very own thing.
I've described Empty Space as a cross between Star Trek and Lost, but it's really more than that. It's a twisty, turny, sometimes unsettling narrative set against the limitless backdrop of the stars, with the sort of bizarre alien species and against-all-odds derring-do that's always characterized the best space adventure–along with a heaping dollop of the macabre.
It will be a 128-page graphic novel, with artist Caio Cacau, and it's on Kickstarter right now… check out the many rewards and donor levels.
And here's a full page of artwork by Cacau to get you in the mood for what's to come.
Yeah, that'll leave a mark.
