And yesterday, an article ran, confirmation that Marvel was to publish a new Storm comic book by Coates and Bartel., with Coates saying ""I guess there's no point in being coy about it, yeah, there's going to be a book, myself and Jen Bartel, who is amazing… I'm not sure when."
Ta-Nehisi Coates is an American author, journalist, comic book writer, and educator, best known as a national correspondent for The Atlantic, where he writes about cultural, social and political issues, particularly as they regard African-Americans. In 2008 he published a memoir, The Beautiful Struggle: A Father, Two Sons, and an Unlikely Road to Manhood with a second book, Between the World and Me in 2015, winning the National Book Award for Nonfiction and garnering a "Genius Grant" from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation .
Jen Bartel is an illustrator and comic artist who specializes in drawing strong ladies. Her candy colored work is heavily influenced by media from the 90's and early 2000's that she consumed during her childhood, and states that her her biggest creative goal is to breathe life into characters that inspire and empower girls from all backgrounds. She is best known for her ongoing cover work on IDW's Jem and the Holograms.
While Storm, Ororo Munroe, is one of the more popular X-Men character, created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum in 1975. The daughter of a tribal princess from Kenya who was raised in Harlem and Cairo, and possessing the mutant ability to control the weather and, subsequently, can fly. Storm has led the X-Men and has also been a member of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. As an adult, Storm married her fellow superhero Black Panther, and was made queen consort of the African nation of Wakanda, but lost this title when they divorced. A favourite of the 90's animated TV cartoon, she was also prominent in the X-Men movies, played by both Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp.
She has hadsolo series before but they have been short-lived things. This may have the chance to go a little longer…
