The Pot Luck Of Dynamic Forces' $88.88 Spider-Man Daily Special
A few years ago, I appeared on QVC in the UK on behalf of Dynamic Forces. Its boss man Nick Barrucci asked, so I did it, partly for the narcissm, but mostly for the experience, as it wasn't like I was paid. And I have to say, it was fun, though I did get in a little trouble for making a 9/11 joke and suggesting that people might want to buy Stan Lee signature items while, you know, he was still around.
It's live TV, there are no buffers. It's a dangerous thing. They should be lucky I didn't pull on a V For Vendetta mask, face the camera and call for an overthrow of the state.
But I did feel guilty for selling what was basically overpriced marked up comics to people who probably couldn't afford them. I felt less guilty when I saw people flip them for even more on eBay a few months later.
Will that happen this time? During Wondercon Saturday, Dynamic Forces' Daily Special is a random CGC graded 9.8 Spider-Man comic, a Spider-Man comic signed by a top comics creator and another Spider-Man comic sketch of Spider-man, Venom, or Carnage by… an artist.
Which comic, which signature, which creator, well that's all up in the air. No one knows. Will you be lucky?
They are charging $88.88, which is far lower than the combined amount for all these. But also far higher than any right minded fellow would pay for three recent Spider-Man comics.
8 is considered a very lucky number. Will it be for you?
