The Zombie Boy That Won't Die
1987 was an interesting time in the comic world. Everywhere you looked there were creators self-publishing black and white comics and people were buying them… for a little while longer. That's when Mark Stokes decided to jump into the fray with his Zombie Boy. He started his own publishing company, Timbuktu, and put out three volumes of his character between 87 and 1994. In 1996 he had another volume come out from Antarctic Press.
And then Zombie Boy went away… for fourteen years.
With the popularity of web comics, Stoke dusted off Zombie Boy and retooled it as a regular webcomic. Now going into its third year, Zombie Boy has garnered enough of a following that the original books are showing up in the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide.
"This is a real thrill for me," said Stokes. "It signals a level of recognition for the work, and a level of acceptance, that I've been waiting a long time for."
The web series follows eleven-year old Morgan McCorkindale after he had a little "accident" during a family vacation on a voodoo island. His friends are the ascot wearing Duncan Bentley Fairchild and the goth psychic Beatrice Stroud… and of course his dog Gorr.
Its a fun little strip… kind of Peantus meets Addams Family and Stokes love for the characters comes through in his work.
"As long as Zombie Boy and his cohorts continue to sew mayhem, and as long as his fans continue to follow," said Stokes, "I'll be there to document it."
So stop by the site, check out the strips and congratulate Zombie Boy on his longevity…
