Thursday Runaround – Fox, Warners And DC Taking A Gamble

FOX ALONSO

There may be no black writers of any ongoing comics at Marvel or DC. But there's certainly more of a latino prescence… Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso went on Fox Latino to talk about himself and the publisher.

With her short shorts, boots and American flag-colored jacket, "tough girl" Chavez is yet another Latino moving to the forefront of a Marvel Comics franchise in Young Avengers Vol. 2 Issue number one.

"People out there reading our comic books are of all sizes, creeds and colors and it's our responsibility to make them feel included," Axel Alonso, editor in chief of Marvel Comics, told Fox News Latino. "This isn't some PC initiative, this is capitalism. This is about supply and demand."

Oh, and…

DC Comics declined to be interviewed for this story.

Well they are a bit busy… read on.

COURT IN THE ACT

Marc Toberoff is having fun in court again, trying to dismiss DC Comics suit against him for copyright interference.

This week's motion says that regardless of DC's claims, they ran down the clock on themselves. "The record shows that DC was on notice of this supposedly tortious conduct by no later than 2006. And yet DC did not file suit that year. Nor did it file in 2007, 2008, or even 2009. Instead, DC sat on its alleged rights, and did not file suit until May 2010 — nearly a decade after the supposed torts had occurred and nearly half a decade after it was put on notice. These state-law claims were filed much too late, and are conclusively barred by the statute of limitations," says the motion for partial summary judgment.

ANOTHER SAGA

Thursday Runaround – Fox, Warners And DC Taking A GambleAfter years of waiting, the English translation of Yukimura's Vinland Saga manga to debut in October

For years American readers and pundits have been pining for an English translation, with The Comics Journal's Dirk Deppey openly endorsing reading scanlations in the absence of an official English-language release. But come Oct. 8 that will all change with the arrival of the 460-page Book One, which not only collects the first two volumes of Vinland Saga but also marks the first hardcover from Kodansha Comics. The $19.99 U.S. edition, which boasts a larger trim size, also includes a new Q&A with Yukimura, Viking cosplay photos (because, why not?), and the first installment of "For Our Farewell Is Near," an unreleased Yukimura story that will be serialized throughout the books.

A DC GAMBLE

They may be illegal in much of the US. But that doesn't stop DC Comics and Canada!

Canada's Amaya Gaming Group has extended its agreement with Warner Bros subsidiary DC Entertainment to continue as the exclusive provider of DC Comics branded online casino games. Amaya will have exclusive rights to distribute real-money online casino games across regulated markets, including games based on popular DC Comics characters Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Flash..

Thursday Runaround – Fox, Warners And DC Taking A Gamble

This is Computo the Comic Link Conqueror speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.

They say I am a work in progress. The fools.

Spoiler Alert: February 6th | DC Comics

Hasslein Blog: Back on the Bayou: Stephen R. Bissette Revisits Swamp Thing's Roots

What wasn't so simple was tracking the various characters Marty, then Alan, wove into the tapestry of Saga of the Swamp Thing: When Alan introduced Jason Woodrue, the Floronic Man, in the script for #21, I was suddenly scrambling to gather all the appearances of Woodrue and the Floronic Man I could lay my hands on. This was the pre-Internet era, remember: It wasn't all at the click of a key on the keyboard; this was also pre-DC universe manuals.

Warren Bernard's Citations and Fredric Wertham Documents | The Comics Journal

With the opening of the Fredric Wertham papers at The Library of Congress, researchers finally have access to Wertham's side of the affair, including Wertham's hand-written notes of his telephone calls as they related to the Senate hearings. The records of the Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency held at the National Archives also held previously unseen documentation. Combined with the power of such newspaper search sites as Proquest Historical Newspapers and Newspaperarchive.com, both available at the Library of Congress, this allows us for the first time to understand the full story of how the Senate comic book hearings came to be.

20th Century Danny Boy: Art Alert: Fake Norm Breyfogle For Sale

Norm had a good look at the sketches and had this to say, "Both of these are definitely FAKES, mere tracings of the actual originals." That they're not genuine Breyfogles is obvious to a lot of Breyfogle collectors, but when Norm himself calls it out as fake, well you just have to listen.

DC Women Kicking Ass – Ann Nocenti Talks Katana, Kurasowa and the Changes She's Seen in Comics

By too much Oliver Stone I meant that I thought my comics were too preachy. At the same time, I still get letters from fans that tell me "your animal rights stories on Daredevil inspired me to be a vegetarian," stuff like that. Which is delightful. But I'm not even a vegetarian! I'm conscious to not eat farm-raised animals, but there is a difference between the character's agenda and the writer's agenda.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Nova' bring Marvel's cosmic future | Inside Movies | EW.com

We knew these were characters that Marvel was looking to really beef up. … It was not something we really had in our library at the moment. I was talking to our editor-in-chief and he said it really feels like Peter Parker meets Luke Skywalker.
