Today, Star Wars #50 Gets Its Own Red Wedding [SPOILERS]

Bleeding Cool pointed out that Star Wars #50, published today by Marvel Comics, follows a familiar theme in today's comic books of betrayal.

There's been a lot of betrayal about of late, it seems, especially in society, in politics, in life. In television drama, one of the biggest moments of recent years was the portrayal of the Red Wedding in Game of Thrones, a massacre during the War of arranged by Lord Walder Frey as revenge, in which King Robb, Queen Talisa, Lady Catelyn, and most of his bannermen and men-at-arms are murdered following the marriage feast of his uncle, Edmure Tully, and Roslin Frey. But the true mastermind of the Red Wedding is Tywin Lannister.

A major moment in the books, it made quite the impact when televised.

Today's Star Wars #50 gave that franchise its own version, in a story by Kieron Gillen, Salvador LaRocca and Guru-eFX. We saw a great betrayal and slaughter, as the Empire struck back against the Rebellion fleet as Darth Vader explored a new tactic.

And part of that, explored in an extra story by Kieron Gillen, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cam Smith, and Java Tartaglia involved making an ally. And to ensure this was a secret from all — even said ally's nearest and dearest.
