Wally West…. Bad Dad? (Titans #1 Spoilers)
So in today's Titans #1 (as well as possibly revealing that it was not Dr Manhattan who removed five years from the DC Universe and hid Wally West from us all) Wally West's memories are explored.
Linda Park, Wally West's wife, in the pre-New 52 universe. But in this universe she has no memory of him. Or anything about him.
She rather fills his thoughts. To the exclusion of all else.
Which is interesting. Because there was more to that relationship than Linda and Wally.
There were Jai and Iris West – Wally and Linda's children. Aged 1 chronologically, but physically about 8 due to an unstable connection to the Speed Force, with Wally having to teach them at super-speed, so they were mentally about the same age as they were physically, before their powers were transferred away.
And wiped out by the New 52.
So where are they? And why isn't Wally West obsessing about them, even more than his dimensionally transient wife? Because there's something rawer, more primal, more urgent about a parents' love for their children, even more than their partner. West already turned back time once so they would no longer have been miscarried, he remember Linda, wouldn't he retain any knowledge at all of them now?
Unless of course, he really is a bad dad….
See, Flash, Superman from today's Action Comics cares…
