Yehudi Mercado's Graphic Memoir About Weight, Chunky, to be Published Next Year

Yehudi Mercado is a comic creator on the likes of Adventure Time, Buffalo Speedway, The Amazing World of Gumball, Rocket Salvage, Pantalones, TX: Don't Chicken Out, Uncle Grandpa, and more.

He has now done a deal for two graphic novels with Ben Rosenthal at HarperCollins/Tegen, Chunky and an untitled sequel. The middle-grade graphic memoirs will be about Yehudi Mercado's 'lifelong struggle with weight and trying to meet the expectations of his sporty dad while growing up in a lower middle-class Mexican-Jewish family in Houston in the 1980s. Will Hudi's imaginary mascot, Chunky, be able to cheer him in the right direction of pursuing theatre? (Hint: Yes, he will.)'

The first book will be published in the summer of next year. Mercado's agent, Charlie Olsen at InkWell Management, arranged the deal.
