  • LeBron's streaming choice could mirror his shrewd history of decisions.

NBA player and star of Space Jam: A New Legacy, LeBron James, recently teased his interest in livestreaming video games, and it caught the attention of a couple of platforms. A few days ago, LeBron took to his Twitter/X account and posted a quick note saying, "Thinking of live streaming my @EAMaddenNFL games when I play. 🤔 Who should I stream with? Meaning which platform brand 👑". That lone tweet set the streaming world ablaze over the weekend as almost everyone had their own take on where they'd like to see the 4x NBA Champion play a little football, which prompted a couple of interesting responses.

Some of the first people to reply to the message were Kick creators Adin Ross and Max Holloway, both of whom made short pitches to come to the newer platform. Kick has been gaining ground recently as they have a few systems in place to give creators more money, including an Incentive Program where you can earn an hourly wage of $16 playing games online, or if you go more the traditional route, the company is offering a 95/5% split on revenue where the streamer gets the bulk of what's earned. That said, Kick has run into its own controversies as of late, including the recent sex worker prank video that went viral a few months ago followed by the CEO's response, which had people questioning what's happening on the platform.

Then there was the response by Twitch's CEO, Daniel Clancy, who gave a quick shout-out to LeBron James about why he should consider Twitch as a place to be, including the new enticing idea that you can simulcast on both Twitch and YouTube together for double the audience and possible revenue. Twitch would give him a bigger audience out of the gate, but it also comes with its own set of issues that people have been dealing with, from rampant harassment of streamers to DMCA problems. Not to mention, Twitch takes a much bigger cut of your profits.

No matter what happens, LeBron tends to make smart business decisions when it comes to his own personal brand. Regardless of what you think of him as a player, the man has been in the NBA for over two decades and is probably feeling out options of what he might do next, whether it be for a career or just a hobby on the weekends. No matter where he goes, he's going to bring with him a ton of eyes to see him play a video game, and it's going to be one of the biggest attractions for whatever platform he lands on. Now we'll see whether or not any of those platforms want to offer him a big money deal to be there as they have done in the past with streamers like Ninja, Markiplier, TimTheTatMan, and more.12
