Marvel Avengers Academy is Getting Shut Down in 2019
It looks like the popular mobile game Marvel Avengers Academy is getting shut down before it had a chance to really get going, according to the devs. The company sent out the notice below, alerting people it was "graduation day", which was their cute way of saying the college would be shutting down and the game would be coming to a close. The game will be removed from iOS and Android shops starting January 1st, 2019, and the game will cease to be accessible by February 4th, 2019.
According to Gamasutra, TinyCo's parent company Jam City was hit with major layoffs, and while TinyCo itself has been doing well and expanding in certain areas, it looks like a decision was made to cut the project and laid off some employees of their own. Now it appears the company will be shifting other staff to other projects after the game is fully shut down. Even though Marvel Avengers Academy had probably one of the dumbest storylines you could think of by putting all the heroes in a private school, it did exceptionally well for a Marvel mobile title. Kind of a shame to see it go so soon before we could see it expand.
