A New Six-Minute 'Prey' Speedrun Proves This Game Is Broken As Hell
So here's the thing: We've been doing a few posts on new speedrunner records for Prey this past week, along with our review. As of the last post, we here at Bleeding Cool all kind of agreed that the records were getting ridiculous. Before you start screaming at the top of your keyboard at us, we totally get it! We enjoy watching people speedrun games, like the Super Mario 64 one we talked about last weekend. And we also understand that for some people, the journey is the destination. If that's your thing, cool! But that's not what this post is about.
What we're saying is that at a certain point in time, you have to judge whether or not the destination is busted. We totally understand the concept that people use exploits to pull these speedruns off. But at what point do you stop giving the player credit for being awesome and start being critical of the game for being so broken that anyone can pop in and beat the game in less time than it takes to make a sandwich? Who knows if the Bethesda dev team are taking notes and correcting all the exploits people are showing off to them, you may see a patch that kills all of it and forces players to speedrun the game in a more linear fashion. For now, kudos to Prokky for pulling this new record off, but at the same time, speedrunning Prey is starting to look stupid.
