The Game Awards 2019 Will Return On December 12th
This week, The Game Awards announced that they would officially be returning with their 2019 show, taking place on Thursday, December 12th. The event will again take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, with various types of tickets going on sale as we speak. Nominees have not been announced for the categories yet, and we suspect we won't be seeing any until sometime in November. The event, while marking the achievements in gaming over the past calendar year, is often a major platform for new game announcements and fresh trailers.
One of the strangest aspects of the announcement is that it gave no mention of how it will be broadcast yet. Usually, there's a guarantee right off the bat that it will be broadcast live on Twitch and YouTube. However, that information seems to have been left out this time around. making some wonder if there will be an announcement for that down the road that The Game Awards will finally go live on television for a network. Considering the event drew 26.2 million viewers last year across multiple platforms, it would stand to reason someone might make a bid for traditional broadcast. But that might also eliminate streaming altogether, which we're guessing they won't give up. As for the rest of the show's content, the announcement said world premieres, nominees, performances and other details, will be released in the coming weeks.
