Wanna Play 'Here They Lie' Without VR? Starting Tomorrow, You Can!

Here They Lie is a pretty decent horror game, a nice mix of what it would be like to have an acid trip in a 1940's noir film while the demons of Hell were having an S&M party. A good spin on stuff we've seen in other games, but more trippy and mind warping. Unfortunately, you wouldn't know that unless you owned a VR system for your PS4. Well, until now.

Tomorrow (Feb. 21), Sony will be releasing an update for the game, making it available for play without the requirement of the PlayStation VR headset. The company released the news today on their PlayStation blog, including how to access the new feature and other updates.

We've been listening to your feedback on our website, social media, and in our communal dreams. Many of you had really great requests for Here They Lie, and we've implemented as many of them as we could. New additions include a controller configuration screen, the highly requested Chapter Select screen, subtitles (only for the Standard version), and a slew of visual upgrades — like improved anti-aliasing and lighting across the board.

This is awesome news for people who have been wanting to play the game without needing the extra equipment, but while the rest of the improvements seem vital, the VR update feels like an unnecessary fixture. Not everyone owns a VR system, some simply can't do it due to medical reasons like poor eyesight or migraines, others because they don't feel like buying added equipment. So why make a game exclusively VR when you know it will alienate some of your audience? It just seems like a weird gaming lesson learned the long way.
