There were two big surprises coming out of Lucasfilm's "Star Wars" universe on Tuesday. First, there came the news that the fourth season of The Mandalorian had now become a feature film titled The Mandalorian & Grogu. Clearly, some very big news – but not the only news that dropped. Our second surprise wasn't that Filoni's Rosario Dawson-starring Star Wars: Ahsoka was getting a second season because it more than deserved one. No, it was about how the news was rolled out almost as an afterthought in the press release for the film. Thankfully, Lucasfilm has looked to make amends for that, releasing some amazing artwork to confirm the second season news… and that "The Story Continues…"
Directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, and Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to begin production in 2024 – later this year. "I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created," shared Favreau. "The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting," Kennedy added. The feature film will lead Lucasfilm's ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Filoni.
Disney+'s Star Wars: Ahsoka also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Sabine Wren), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Hera Syndulla), Eman Esfandi (Ezra Bridger), Lars Mikkelsen (Admiral Thrawn), Ivanna Sakhno (Shin Hati), Ray Stevenson (Baylan Skoll), Genevieve O'Reilly (Mon Mothma), Diana Lee Inosanto (Morgan Elsbeth), Maurice Irvin (Senator Mawood), Jacqueline Antaramian (Senator Rodrigo), Nelson Lee (Senator Xiono), Erica Duke (Gran Senator), David Tennant (the voice of droid Huyang), and Wes Chatham (Admiral Thrawn's right-hand man). Hayden Christensen is reportedly set to return as Anakin Skywalker for the series. Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa are also helming chapters this season.
