It looks like we may be getting a sequel to the 1989 cult classic Beverly Hills Troop, as Cameron Diaz has teamed up with Clea DuVall to make it happen. The news came from Deadline this week, as the the two appear to be working on a follow-up to the Shelly Long film, as it appears DuVall will direct from her own script, with Laurence Mark (The Greatest ShowmanDreamgirls) set to produce it with both Diaz and her business partner, Katherine Power, who both founded the organic wine brand Avaline.

Time To Start a New Troop With a Sequel to Troop Beverly Hills

No details have been released on the plot yet, but if it is a true sequel, one would assume they would attempt to get Long involved in the project, or possibly some of the former troop members who were mostly kid actors, as it isn't inconceivable that some of them could easily fit into the roles of adults who now have girls in a new troop. Duvlal will make the film with TriStar Pictures, reuniting with the studio that released her 2020 LGBTQ+ rom-com, Happiest Season, starring Kristen Stewart.

If you're unfamiliar with the film, the plot centers on a Beverly Hills socialite living with her separated husband, who takes on the role of Den Mother for her daughter's Girl Scout troop in an attempt to get closer to her during the divorce. As you might suspect, hilarity ensues as Long's character goes about doing the most unorthodox things with the troop, while also trying to help them earn their merit badges, having zero experience. The film bombed at the box office when it was first released, but, like many 80s films, it found a new audience through cable TV syndication and became a cult classic.
