ITV Fire First Christmas Day Shots – A Vicious Finale With Ian McKellan And Derek Jacobi
Christmas Day, and the days after, is a real battleground for British television, in way that it just isn't for the USA. The channels bring out the big guns to grab an audience more likely to be lolling around on sofas.
On the BBC, we know we'll get the Doctor Who Christmas Special on Christmas Day, as well as a final Great British Bake-Off with the current cast and crew. Disney's Frozen. Strictly Come Dancing. Eastenders. A return to the sitcom Outnumbered, now the kids have grown up. A new Jonathan Creek. Mrs Brown Boys. Call The Midwife. There will also be the debut of the new Sherlock series. All the big box office crowd pleasers.
But it seems that ITV is also bringing back the sitcom special for Christmas Day with a return to Vicious, the sitcom starring Ian McKellan and Derek Jacobi as Freddy and Stuart, to follow the finale of the previous series which saw them married at last, after decades.
Not that marriage will have made them any less vicious towards each other. The hour-long special will be split into four seasons, through their first year of marriage.
