'Judge Dredd: Mega-City One' Producer Confirms Karl Urban Is In Talks

There are plenty of actors that throw around the "there have been talks" statement. It's a good way to answer a question while not giving us anything definitive. No one usually puts that much weight on those words, because they're usually meaningless. It's another version of the "yeah, I'd be interested in play X role," type of PR buzz. But there are some exceptions, because some creatives are truly passionate about certain projects. One of these is Karl Urban when it comes to the character of Judge.

Ever since the 2012 movie Dredd, Urban has been vocal about trying to get a sequel in the works. That doesn't look like it's going to happen, but we did get news recently that a television show is in the works.

'Judge Dredd: Mega-City One' Producer Confirms Karl Urban Is In TalksWhile at a Star Trek convention, Urban was asked if he was going to be involved with the television show, and confirmed that he was in talks. It seemed like most people believed that this wasn't PR speak, but Screen Geek managed to chase down executive producer Jason Kingsley, who also confirmed the news:

"We have been in discussions with Karl about his possible involvement in Judge Dredd: Mega-City One for some time. These conversations continue but we're keen, he's keen – it's just a case of us making sure this show is everything we want it to be. This needs to be done right – the fans deserve it. Our team is working hard on scripts for the first season, creating engaging multi-thread storylines, one of which will be Dredd's but others which take us into the wider world of Mega-City One."

'Judge Dredd: Mega-City One' Producer Confirms Karl Urban Is In TalksNow, this is by no means a confirmation in any sense of the word. Urban has said that television work was hard for him when he was on Almost Human, so any role he had would likely be a reoccurring guest spot. However, everyone who is involved with Mega-City One seems very passionate about the series. A project with passion behind it will always fair better than one without.

Judge Dredd: Mega-City One is still two years away and currently doesn't have a network. But as long as the nerd boom that has taken over Hollywood continues, this show will happen.
