The Mission: Impossible franchise has had a rough couple of years. It became the COVID canary in the coal mine as the production of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning was the first major production that had to be shut down due to the virus. Several false starts made the film's budget even bigger, so even though it made over $560 million at the worldwide box office, many saw this as the film underperforming and the reviews were not very good. When the movie was first released, there was a "Part One" on the title, too, but it seems that things have changed. According to Variety, there is finally a release date for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning to drop on Paramount+, and they have officially dropped "Part One" from the title. The film will be released on the streaming service next week on January 25th in the US and Canada and will arrive in international markets at the beginning of next month.

This isn't that surprising considering when the release date for Mission: Impossible 8 was announced, the film was announced as Mission: Impossible 8 and not Dead Reckoning Part Two. It's unclear whether or not this means there are script rewrites happening on the next film, or maybe they want to make a title that doesn't make journalists with limits on how long their headlines can be bang their heads against the wall until the film comes out on May 23, 2025.
