The X-Men: New Mutants cast has arrived in Boston presumeably for filming. The first of the X-Men movies to come out next year and it hasn't even started filming yet. It looks like that is about to change according to Henry Zaga's instagram. Zaga, who plays Sunspot, posted a picture of himself and three of his cast members hanging out on the 4th of July in Boston.
Zaga is joined by Masie Williams who will play Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton who will play Canonball, and Blu Hunt as Mirage is tagged in the photo but not seen. We haven't seen Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik yet or newly cast Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
This movie is going to be based on the Demon Bear story line which is about as close to horror as comic book movies have gotten since the original Blade movies. If they are shooting this like a horror movie, with a reliance on practical effects and what not, the timeline won't be an issue. However, this will be a rushed production no matter what angle they look at it from. They are just starting filming for a movie with an April release.
Fox has made a cheap and rushed X-Men production work once (X-Men: First Class) but that doesn't mean they should make it a regular thing. New Mutants is going to be the of three radically different X-Men movies in 2018 and very different from anything we've seen in the super hero movies in years. Director Josh Boone shouldn't have to rush that and we can hope it will all work out in the end.
