Peyton Reed Talks Laying the Groundwork for Avengers 4 in Ant-Man and The Wasp

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is all connected, so there are Easter eggs hiding all over the place in various movies. Ant-Man and The Wasp is no different, and it's also one of the movies that's leading into Avengers 4 next year. Captain Marvel might come out next, but Ant-Man and The Wasp is helping lay the groundwork for the big finale of the first 10 years of Marvel storytelling. ComicBook.com asked director Peyton Reed if he knew anything about Avengers 4, and while he artfully dodged the question he did say there could be hints in Ant-Man and The Wasp.

"I know stuff. That's all I can say. I know some stuff. I can't say really what are seeds about Avengers 4, or about a potential other Ant-Man movie, but I can say that things are definitely in a movie for a reason," Reed said. "I will say that. Whether it's an actual Easter egg, or whether it's a misdirect."

Kevin Feige recently said that there could be hints to the future hidden somewhere in the Quantum Realm, but that they are so fast it's likely we won't see them in theaters. Ant-Man teased Janet being alive in the Quantum Realm, but it took some time before anyone was able to get confirmation since it went by so fast. If there is anything hidden there it's likely we won't find it until Ant-Man and The Wasp comes out on home release.

Reed, who was infamously a little bitter that Captain America: Civil War got the Giant-Man reveal, spoke about handing over his characters to the Russos yet again.

"You know, it is a weird thing, and I think I've talked about how when Paul went off with [Anthony Russo and Joe Russo] to do Civil War," Reed said. "It's like, 'Oh, man, they're getting the Giant-Man reveal, and he's hanging with out with Captain America?!'"

That being said, Reed is still looking forward to seeing how Ant-Man, The Wasp, and other rumored characters interact with other Marvel heroes. We learn a lot about these characters by watching how they all react to different scenarios, and this time we get to see Scott and Hope react to fighting Thanos.

"I think it's just something going into this situation, you know that that that's going to happen, but I do feel like it's cool that they go off and work in that ensemble," Reed said. "But I think I do like that when we come back and do tell the next chapter of the Ant-Man and The Wasp story. It does give us room narratively to really develop their characters in a way that I think is definitely more challenging to do in the larger ensemble movies. So, there's probably a little piece of me that will always die when they go off and do someone else's movie, but hopefully, at the end of the day they'll come back home."

Reed seems to have a lot of love for these characters in the same way that James Gunn really appears to love the Guardians. That shows passion and heart, which is so important when it comes to movies like this. The audience can tell when a director is really in love with the characters and the source material, and Reed appears to be one of those directors.

Summary: As Scott Lang balances being both a Super Hero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past.
