Next year, Sony will attempt to expand it's Spider-Man-less (or is it?) Spider-Man cinematic universe when they unleash Venom starring Tom Hardy on theaters. Already in development, Silver and Black, featuring Silver Sable and Black Cat, will take that universe even further, with recently rumored spinoffs for Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio also reportedly in the works. In a recent profile on Sony Chairman Tom Rothman which is being mined heavily for clickbait articles all 0ver the internet today, THR claims that Carnage will appear in Venom while talking about the studio's expansion plans, which could open up some interesting possibilities, if we're speculating wildly.
Are we speculating wildly today? Let us check our calendar. Yup, it's a day ending in "Y." Here's what THR had to say:
As for the expansion plans, Tom Hardy is starring in Venom, dated for Oct. 5, 2018, which will also feature the villain Carnage. A source says Holland is only contractually obligated to Spider-Man 2 and 3, but the intention is to bring him into the spinoffs and possibly other Marvel films (he is currently shooting Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War).
If this rumor is true, and if Sony is looking for ways to expand its superhero universe, they may not have too look too far to find an actor willing to take on the role. Back in November, it was reported that Lin-Manuel Miranda is particularly interested in playing the character, specifically with an eye on a Maximum Carnage movie. A star of Miranda's caliber would be perfect to help launch the Spider-Verse, just as his name is perfect to bring lots of clicks to this article.
And future articles, if we're being honest, so hopefully these crazy kids can make something work.
Venom, directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Tom Hardy, is expected to be released in October, 2018. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, Silver and Black doesn't have a release date yet.
