The Russo Brothers Say the Differences Between Phases 3 and 4 Will Be "Drastic" and "Massive"

The title of Avengers 4 is a carefully held secret within the walls of Marvel Studios. Director Anthony and Joe Russo have said that the title itself is a spoiler, and when asked by Yahoo Movies whether it would be revealed at the end of Avengers: Infinity War the answer was a solid "no".

"No, no," Joe Russo said after being asked if the title will be revealed after the end credits of the latest Avengers movie. "It's going to be quite a long while before people see that title. We need people to see this movie, digest this movie, and then we can tell them what the next story is they're going to see."

Avengers 4 was originally titled Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, so fans have been wondering whether or not there would be a huge cliffhanger at the end of Infinity War. It turns out the title change is because the two movies became two separate entities.

"It's a complete story," he said. "It's got a beginning, middle and an end and the next movie has a beginning, middle and an end, in the same way that Civil War handed off to Infinity War and Infinity War will hand off to the next movie. It's serialised storytelling without question so there is going to be a correlation, narratively, but we really wanted to make two distinct movies. We weren't interested in making one long film and getting out the scissors and cutting the scissors and cutting it in half. We don't find that a satisfying cinematic experience so this is a complete story, that's a complete story, and they're very different movies."

If we don't know anything about Avengers 4, then we know even less about the next phase of movies. There have been rumors and a few confirmations, but besides that we know almost nothing. That might have something to do with the next slate being vastly different from the first, according to the Russos.

Anthony Russo says the difference between Phase 3 and Phase 4 will be "pretty drastic."

"I think massively different," Joe continued. "I think that this is if Marvel has been writing a book for ten years, it's the end of the book and someone is going to write a new book. Who knows what that new book will be but this is an ending and that'll be a new beginning."

Marvel will likely continue to hold their cards close to the chest for the rest of the year. They don't need to tell anyone anything, because we're all invested in the next four movies. They'll drop the next slate of movies on us during either a convention or an event like they did a couple of years ago.
