Singer Halle Bailey Cast as Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" Remake

Disney has cast their new Ariel for The Little Mermaid remake. According to The Hollywood Reporter singer/actress Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel in the new movie that will be directed by Rob Marshall. Bailey is one half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle.

Disney is keeping quiet about other details of the movie such as the release date or what kind of changes they will be making to the story. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who joined the Disney family with Mary Poppins Returns, will be joining Marshall to work on the music for the new movie.

The Disney live-action remake pattern continues. There are three of them coming out in 2019 with Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King. While Dumbo didn't perform that well at the box office but Aladdin has made over $800 million at the worldwide box office.

Disney is holding the D23 Expo next month in Anaheim and we should expect more information from them.
