Chris Hemsworth Confirms That Thor Will Be [SPOILER] For Infinity War

There were a couple of genuine surprises in Thor: Ragnarok, and one of them is less surprising that it happened and more that marketing was able to keep it a secret. Between toys and a ton of marketing, no one is surprised when comic book movies get spoiled — but this spoiler is one no one ruined. Entertainment Weekly spoke to Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi and actor Chris Hemsworth about this spoiler but if you haven't seen the movie yet, you should probably come back to this article after.

So the big spoiler is that Thor loses an eye in the battle with Hela (Cate Blanchett) toward the end of the movie. We've seen scenes from that fight and they made sure that Thor had two eyes so we didn't get spoiled.

Looking at it now you can see the edge of the full wound on his cheek and the rest is just editing. Entertainment Weekly asked Waititi about the decision to deprive Thor of his eyes.

Says director Taika Waititi, "That kind of just evolved just throughout the script process, to just keep stripping that character down, having him lose the hammer and all those things and to kind of create a broken version of the character. At the end, he sort of becomes a refugee."

Fans who saw the Avengers: Infinity War footage noted that Thor appeared to have both of his eyes in the shots we saw. That appears to be something they changed in digital as well because Hemsworth confirmed that Thor is minus an eye in Infinity War.

Says the actor, "Yeah we carry it into the film with the eye patch you see in this film."

It was nice to actually be surprised by something in a superhero movie for once. Good job Marvel and Disney for not spoiling anything.

Summary: Imprisoned, the mighty Thor finds himself in a lethal gladiatorial contest against the Hulk, his former ally. Thor must fight for survival and race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home and the Asgardian civilization.
