The Three Reasons Cate Blanchett Wanted To Be In Thor: Ragnarok

The Marvel Universe is bringing in some big names these days and Cate Blanchett as the villain Hela in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok is one of the biggest. She's a two time Oscar-winner and you have to wonder what drew Blanchett to the project. According to the L.A. Times there were three reasons Blanchett wanted to do the project.

"A) It was Taika. B) It was the goddess of death. And C) There's never been a female Marvel villain."

It's interesting that director Taika Watiti was a draw for her considering he hasn't director a lot of movies. It says a lot about the buzz that has followed Waititi from his previous movies that Blanchett considers him to be the main reason she signed onto Ragnarok.

When it came to the headdress that Hela wears Blanchett had to call on some of those award winning acting skills to pull it off.

"The headdress is such a huge part of when she comes into the height of her powers in the film," Blanchett said. "I only wore that really in the photo shoots. I had to sort of imagine what it was like being a reindeer."

We can hope that Marvel realizes what a big win Hela is and they won't kill her off after one movie. She should absolutely have room to return.

Summary: Imprisoned, the mighty Thor finds himself in a lethal gladiatorial contest against the Hulk, his former ally. Thor must fight for survival and race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home and the Asgardian civilization.

Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi, stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Idris Elba, and Mark Ruffalo. It will be released on November 3rd.
