30 Rock: A One-Time Special Promo: The Gang Goes The (Social) Distance

With less than a week to go before 30 Rock: A One-Time Special brings Liz (Tina Fey), Jack (Alec Baldwin), Tracy (Tracy Morgan), Jenna (Jane Krakowski), and Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) back together, fans are getting a look at how the gang's handling their social distancing lives in an official promo for the award-winning series' one-time-only return. Along with special, viewers will also preview upcoming 2020-2021 programming across the entire NBCU family (NBC, Telemundo, USA Network, SYFY, E!, Bravo, and more). Directed by Oz Rodriguez (Saturday Night Live), the hour-long, commercial-free event premieres next Thursday, July 16 at 8 pm ET, on NBC.  USA Network, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, CNBC, and streaming service Peacock will air the special on Friday, July 17 at 9 pm ET.  But let's get back to that 30 Rock teaser, which offers yet another example of Liz having s successful interaction with a man:

Originally airing on NBC from October 2006 until January 2013, 30 Rock earned 16 Emmys (including 3 consecutive wins for Outstanding Comedy Series); 7 Golden Globes; 22 Guild Awards among SAG, WGA, DGA, and PGA; as well as Image, Peabody and AFI Awards. The series is also the record-holder for most Emmy nominations in one season for any comedy series, receiving a total of 103 Emmy nominations over the course of the show's seven seasons on NBC. Fey and series co-creator Robert Carlock are looking forward to the reunion: "We're all happy to have this excuse to (remotely) work together again for NBC. To quote Kenneth the Page, there are only two things we love in this world, television, and everyone." Broadway Video and Little Stranger, Inc. produce, in association with Universal Television and NBCUniversal Creative Partnerships.

The road to the reunion hasn't exactly been without its bumps along the way so far. Fey, Carlock, and NBCU made the decision last month to remove four episodes featuring characters in blackface from streaming services and syndication. The episodes requested removed included "Believe In The Stars" (s03e02), "Christmas Attack Zone" (s05e10), "Live from Studio 6H" (s06e19), and the east coast edition of "The Live Show" (s05e04). NBC Universal is also having the episodes removed from third-party runs.

Fey had this to say about the decision: "As we strive to do the work and do better in regards to race in America, we believe that these episodes featuring actors in race-changing makeup are best taken out of circulation. I understand now that 'intent; is not a free pass for white people to use these images. I apologize for the pain they have caused. Going forward, no comedy-loving kid needs to stumble on these tropes and be stung by their ugliness. I thank NBCUniversal for honoring this request."
