Ahsoka: Rosario Dawson Was Close to Joining Star Trek Over Star Wars

Rosario Dawson tears the hearts out of Trekkies as the Ahsoka star reveals she could have been in Star Trek instead of the Star Wars series.

Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson is a lifelong Trekkie and, perhaps in another universe, could have led the Star Trek franchise in a new show or a memorable supporting role. The actress revealed that had Disney and Lucasfilm not come calling, she could have lived one of her childhood dreams of being in the Paramount franchise. Dawson spoke up about her Star Trek fandom at Fan Expo Boston and what could have been.

Ahsoka Star Rosario Dawson Almost Played a Changeling

When Dawson's not sneaking in random Star Trek references on the Ahsoka set, much to creator Dave Filoni's chagrin, she enjoys teasing him about it, even sharing a video of herself in full Star Wars garb having a mini-Picard tea party. "I'm definitely a 'Next Gen' girl. Captain Picard all the way," she told the crowd (via Telegram & Gazette) of the character played by Sir Patrick Stewart, who reprised his role for Paramount+'s Picard for three seasons. "I have a video of me being dressed as Ahsoka holding up the Picard Earl Gray tea bottle. One of these days, I will post it."

Dawson admitted having booked Ahsoka prevented her from appearing on Star Trek. "I could have been one of Odo's species, the changeling. I could have been an immortal puddle, guys. Do you understand my pain [clenching her eyes tight]? That would have been really cool," she insisted. "I also really pushed to be a 'Q.' My dad. That was my dad [donning a masculine voice and pointing to her dad in the audience], 'Be Q.' I'm like, I'm trying. Right? Then I can be, you know, annoying…cause chaos, which I love.'" The timing would have reflected in seasons two and three of Picard, where John de Lancie reprised his role as Jean-Luc's nemesis, Q, for the bulk of season two and the series finale mid-credits cameo. The Changelings were one of two villains of season three that saw the former captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D reunited with his crew, the TNG cast.
