Batwoman Update: Series in "Early Development", No Plans for a Batman Appearance
The Batwoman CW show is already a big deal for several reasons, and it sounds like the guys over at the network are hard at work creating it. According to Deadline they are planning on introducing the character during the big crossover event this December.
"Greg [Berlanti] is in early stages of development at this point," said CW president Mark Pedowitz today and acknowledged that Batwoman would be introduced in a DC crossover event in December. "We'll do a pilot for mid-season, whether it goes to series, I cannot tell you. We have five (DC shows) on the air and just added a sixth night."
When asked if Batwoman is a villain in that crossover special, he said "I can't even answer that question." Over at TV Line the question of Batman has come up again. We know that Gotham and Bruce Wayne exist in this universe, but they've never addressed the Batman-sized elephant in the room. It sounds like they aren't planning to either.
"Batwoman lives in Gotham," where her potential standalone series will be set, "but there are no plans at this time to have Batman appear," Pedowitz told reporters.
There is only so long they can dodge this. Supergirl did it for an entire season, and every time we only saw Clark through text messages or when he didn't show up to help his cousin when the city was being destroyed it was a hairline fracture to the immersion of the show. The Batwoman show is going to have to figure out how to make this work or it's going to have the same problem.
