The CW Acquires The Outpost as a 10-Episode Summer Series
The CW continues to expand, this time adding their first hour-long summer scripted series. The network as acquired The Outpost, a 10-hour fantasy-adventure series from Dean Devlin's Electric Entertainment and Arrowstorm Entertainment. The series is being carried by Syfy channels outside of the U.S. No premiere date or time has been set as of yet.
The series was created by Jason Faller and Kynan Griffin. It follows Talon (Jessica Green), the lone survivor of a race called 'Blackbloods'. Her entire village was destroyed by a race of mercenaries, and she tracks the killers to a lawless fortress on the very edge of the civilized world. She also discovers that she has a mysterious supernatural power that she must learn to control if she has any hope of saving herself and stopping a fanatical religious dictator trying to take over the world. Green (Ash vs Evil Dead) joins a cast that includes Jake Stormoen (Extinct), Imogen Waterhouse (Nocturnal Animals) Andrew Howard (Hell on Wheels), Anand Desai-Barochia (Emmerdale) and Robyn Malcolm (Top of the Lake).
This is also the first time Devlin, who co-wrote and produced the Stargate film, will be working with Jonathan Glassner, creator of the Stargate SG-1 television series. Both will executive produce with Faller and Griffen.
This is somewhat of a change for the CW, who up until now aired half-hour shows in the off-season like L.A. Complex, Backpackers, Significant Mother and Dates. But this season, a few of the regular series are going to carry over into the summer months, like Supergirl, The 100, and the final season of The Originals. Also on the summer schedule are the unscripted series Whose Line Is It Anyways, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, and Masters of Illusion.
