"Homeland" Season 8, Episode 1 "Deception Indicated": New Wars, Old Threats [PREVIEW]
Homeland star Claire Danes' Carrie Mathison is like The Godfather's Michael Corleone times seven. Every time the intelligence expert tries to get out of the business (which is a debate for another day), they pull her back in. In the the eighth and final season of Showtime's Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series, the "they" turns out to be Mandy Patinkin's Saul Berenson. Now National Security Advisor to President Warner (Beau Bridges), Saul needs Carrie's skills one last time for what could prove to be their deadliest mission yet.
What makes it even deadlier is Carrie not knowing if she can trust Saul – and vice-versa, as we're about to see in the following preview and overview for season opener "Deception Indicated":
"Homeland" season 8, episode 1 "Deception Indicated": Carrie recovers in Germany. Saul negotiates. Max has a new mission.
In the following teaser, we see that Carrie will need to be on her "A game" as threats come from every direction – making her "One Last Mission" more desperate than ever. Following that, Danes, Patinkin, and Alex Gansa discuss the series journey as well as offer some hints as to where the road's heading – and ending.
Here's a look back at the second official trailer for the series' final run, which shows us that no matter how it all ends… Carrie will do what needs to be done:
But how did things get to this point? Showtime is offering viewers a small reminder in the following clip, which looks back on Carrie's seven seasons' worth of deceit, double-cross… and death:
With the final season premiere less than a month away, Danes shares her first impressions of Carrie and how she got to "become" the character over the course of eight seasons. Patinkin reflects on how time and experiences have changed Saul – and how the character changed him personally and professionally.
Here's a look at the official trailer for Homeland, premiering Sunday, February 9, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime:
The final season of HOMELAND finds Carrie Mathison (Danes) recovering from months of brutal confinement in a Russian gulag. Her body is healing, but her memory remains fractured – which is a problem for Saul (Patinkin), now National Security Advisor to the newly ascendant President Warner (Emmy and Golden Globe winner Beau Bridges). The top priority of Warner's young administration is an end to the "forever war" in Afghanistan, and Saul has been dispatched to engage the Taliban in peace negotiations.
But Kabul teems with warlords and mercenaries, zealots and spies – and Saul needs the relationships and expertise that only his protégé can provide. Against medical advice, Saul asks Carrie to walk with him into the lion's den – one last time. Along with Danes and Patinkin, the final season stars Maury Sterling, Linus Roache and Costa Ronin, with Nimrat Kaur and Numan Acar also returning from season four in series regular roles.
Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios for Showtime, Homeland was developed for American television by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, and is based on the original Israeli series Prisoners of War by Gideon Raff. Along with Gansa and Gordon, executive producers for season eight include Chip Johannessen, Debora Cahn, Lesli Linka Glatter, Patrick Harbinson, Claire Danes, Michael Klick, Avi Nir, Ran Telem, and Gideon Raff.
