YouTube Premium Orders Female Friendship Series 'Kat & June Think Stuff!'
Building off of the breakout success of their Karate Kid spinoff series Cobra Kai, YouTube Premium (previously YouTube Red) continues bolstering its original scripted programming with Kat & June Think Stuff! (working title) from AwesomenessTV. Created/written by Mackenzie Yeager (Girl Meets World, All Night) and with Jen Braeden (Awkward, Girl Boss) serving as co-showrunner, the six-episode, half-hour comedy series stars centers on the internal monologues of two women as they become friends – musings that only viewers will be able to hear. Shelley Zimmerman, Shauna Phelan, Mackenzie Yeager, and Jen Braeden are set to executive produce the project.
Kat & June Think Stuff! (working title) stars Tenea Intriago (Law & Order: SVU) and Alexia Dox (Quick Draw) as the respective friends in question. Over the course of the series, viewers will witness the birth of a strange but beautiful female friendship; with their hopes, dreams and fears (mostly fears) on display. The series also stars Emily Hinkler (The Good Doctor) as Tessa, Elizabeth Hinkler (The Good Doctor) as Molly, Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live, Pizza Mind) as Tiff, and Justin Kirk (Weeds, Kidding) as David.
Though no premiere date has been officially set, production on Kat & June Think Stuff! (working title) began this week. For YouTube Premium, the series is another example of the streaming service's increased commitment to original programming. Along with Cobra Kai and the recently-announced Kirsten Dunst dark comedy series On Becoming a God in Central Florida, YouTube Premium has a diverse line-up that also includes animated comedy series Dallas & Robo with Kat Dennings and John Cena; thriller series Impulse from executive producer Doug Liman; dance drama series Step Up: High Water; and Liza Koshy's Liza on Demand.
YouTube Premium is also looking to expand their international original programming, actively screening comedies, dramas, reality series and action adventure shows from the U.K., Germany, France, Mexico, and and others.
