Untitled Morning Show: Bel Powley, Karen Pittman, Desean Terry Join Witherspoon/Aniston Apple Series
Apple's Untitled Morning Show (tbd) is adding an additional three new faces to the set of the drama's fictional AM morning program, with White Boy Rick's Bel Powley joining Karen Pittman (Luke Cage) and Desean Terry (Shameless) as series regulars. Written by Kerry Ehrin based on an original idea by Media Res' Michael Ellenberg and additional material from Brian Stelter's book Top of the Morning, the series stars Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Billy Crudup, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Nestor Carbonell, and Mark Duplass.
Powley's Claire Conway is a driven production assistant, with Pittman's Mia Jordan serving as a show producer and Terry's Daniel Henderson a show co-anchor. The Mimi Leder-directed series provides an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, exploring the unique challenges faced by the women (and men) who carry out this daily televised ritual.
Ehrin serves as series showrunner, with Media Res serving as the project's studio and Stelter consulting. Aniston, Witherspoon, Ehrin, Leder, and Ellenberg are set to executive produce alongside Echo Films' Kristin Hahn and Hello Sunshine's Lauren Levy Neustadter.
Powley (Diary of a Teenage Girl) recently starred in Kenneth Lonergan's Broadway play Lobby Hero. Pittman had a recurring role on the recently cancelled Netflix' Luke Cage, while Terry has appeared in shows like Southland.
Apple has been making moves to build up its original streaming content offerings, but this project and the upcoming animated series Central Park share a distinct honor: both series received initial two-season orders – not the standard one season pick-up, as is the norm.
Central Park is the computer giant's first foray into animated series, telling the story of a family of caretakers living and working in Central Park who find themselves having to save the park…and the world. Josh Gad, Leslie Odom Jr., Titus Burgess, Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci, Daveed Diggs, and Kathryn Hahn make-up the series' voice cast.
