S.W.A.T. Exiles: Shemar Moore Set to Return for Spinoff Series

Shemar Moore is set to reprise his role as Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson and executive-produce Sony Pictures Television's S.W.A.T. Exiles.

When we shared in our preview for this past Friday's new "series finale" of CBS's Shemar Moore-starring S.W.A.T. that we wouldn't believe the series was actually done until around 2027. Well, about 48 hours later, we can officially stop waiting. On Sunday night, it was announced that Sony Pictures Television was developing a spinoff, currently titled S.W.A.T. Exiles, that sees Moore reprising his role as Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson. In addition, the production team behind the CBS series will make the move over to the spinoff, with production set to get underway this summer. Jason Ning (Lucifer) will serve as showrunner, with the 10-episode season set to be executive-produced by Moore, Neal H. Moritz & Pavun Shetty of Original Film, and James Scura.

Here's a look at the official series overview: "After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is." No additional casting was announced.

"My eight seasons on S.W.A.T. have been epic and memorable. We entertained the world, defied the odds, came back from the dead twice, and continued to woo fans and families worldwide. I am excited for this next generation and iteration of S.W.A.T. with Sony," Moore shared in a statement. Katherine Pope, SPT Studios President, added, "We couldn't be more excited to bring the next chapter of S.W.A.T. to life — both for our incredibly dedicated fans of the original franchise and for a new generation of viewers. We're grateful to our incredible partners Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Jason Ning, and Shemar Moore for embarking on this journey with us. This team's commitment to the global fanbase, to our beloved crew, and to our city runs deep!"
